Put a Lid on It: A 5-Week Intensive with Kevin Rodrigue

Sundays, March 8, 2026 through April 12, 2026 (No Class April 5th)  6:00pm-8:30pm. Must be 16 or older.

Calling all lid lovers and closure enthusiasts. This five week adventure is all about lidded pottery. Jars, boxes, butter dishes, and mystery containers with a delightful surprise on top. If you have ever been obsessed with that perfect lift, fit, and soft little clink when a lid settles just right, this class is for you.

We will kick things off with an inspiring slide show and a hands on lid parade, yes you get to handle some excellent examples. Then we dive deep into the magic of making parts that belong together. Throwing bodies and lids, understanding proportions, and learning how to make lids that actually fit. We will explore different lid styles including gallery lids, knobbed lids, and pulled and altered handles.

Expect a full on lid focused studio experience where you will practice timing, measuring, refining edges, and solving common lid problems. We will also play with trimming strategies and surface decoration that enhance both the pot and the lid so everything feels intentional and cohesive.

We will wrap things up with a warm and supportive group critique to admire, laugh, learn, and celebrate your lidded pottery victories.

Prerequisite: Students should feel comfortable throwing four to six inch cylinders and should bring their favorite tools and materials. Class includes one 25 pound clay block
