Dinner With Friends

This month’s featured exhibition at LibertyTown is Dinner with Friends, a collaborative show conceived by potter and resident artist Kevin Rodrigue. Inspired by his love of pottery and the creative energy that comes from working with others, Kevin envisioned a project that would celebrate both craftsmanship and community. He invited a group of talented artists—Caroline Murphy, Cindy Libel, Crystal Rodrigue, D.D. Lecky, Elizabeth Seaver, Nicole Horn, and Pete Morelewicz—to collaborate with him on a unique and personal endeavor: the creation of a handcrafted dinnerware set.

Each artist was paired with Kevin to design a four-piece place setting consisting of a dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, and cup. While Kevin provided the ceramic forms, each collaborator brought their own artistic voice to the surface design—drawing from their backgrounds in painting, design, photography, metalsmithing, and, of course, ceramics. The result is eight one-of-a-kind place settings that are clever, diverse, and visually stunning.

From quirky ostriches and bold graphic birds to vibrant lemons and expressive abstract patterns, each set tells a story of creative dialogue and shared vision. These distinctive settings are elegantly displayed on an exquisite live-edge red oak table, generously provided by Fraser Wood Elements, further enhancing the presentation and highlighting the beauty of functional art. Accompanying the dinnerware are individual works by each participating artist, offering a broader glimpse into their independent practices and adding rich context to the collaborative pieces. Dinner with Friends is both a celebration of craftsmanship and a testament to the power of collaboration.

Please join us for the exhibit opening reception on First Friday, August 2nd, from 5–9pm. The show will be on display from August 2 through August 31, 2025.
