Rachel Hodge is a local artist who specializes in experimental techniques and mixed media in a variety of subjects. Her work ranges from large to small scale and includes portraits, landscapes and realistic animals. Preferring to work from personal experiences Rachel’s paintings have a distinctly bright color palette and atmosphere. After years of painting in only acrylic, this artist rediscovered her love of process by combining multiple materials that she finds exciting into each piece of work.
Rachel grew up on the banks of Lake Anna in Spotsylvania, Virginia. Now she resides, teaches and works in the Fredericksburg area with her husband and daughter. She studied art education at Longwood University. Later she received her liberal arts degree from the University of Mary Washington where she was also awarded the Emil R. Schnellock Award for Excellence in Painting.
