Ariel Freeman
My life in art began almost 20 years ago, painting large floral watercolors, aged things, and people in daily life.
Over the years, I have developed a focus on impression, attention and response to painting a subject from life, both in the studio and plein air. My current emphasis on oil painting ‘alla prima’. Completing a painting all in one sitting, lends itself to that immediate impression, allowing me to explore the nuances of light, depths of color and form in new and exciting ways.
In 2021, I began the practice of “daily painting”, or almost daily. Creating one small painting early in the morning (5 am), most days of the week. Through this practice, I am better connected to that inner creative voice, showing up each day to listen. Early morning hour has become a meditative daily practice, developing patience with myself, inspiration from direct observation, self awareness, speed and confidence, and ultimately a unified collection of paintings.
My work has been shown extensively in Northern VA and Maryland in various juried shows, galleries, private and public collections.
