All Day Summer Camp Ages 6-9, Week 3: July 6-10, 2020
Welcome to LibertyTown Summer Camps!
Our all-day camps run from 9am to 5 pm and include a 1 hr. break from 12:30-1:30 for lunch and two 30-minute breaks at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. Each hour and a half class will explore another facet and medium of art, including painting, drawing, clay, polymer clay, fiber and art history.
Parents are asked to pack a lunch and snacks (we have a refrigerator on site) for their kids. No peanuts please. Some parents have requested to bring snacks for the whole class. Please let us know if you would like to do this and we will make sure to let everyone know they have a “snack break” on that day.
On Friday of each week we will have a CAMP PARTY from 5:00-6:00pm. Refreshments will be served, and parents and siblings are welcome too!!
Full descriptions of the Class Periods are below!
This year we’re offering a themed program for each week for you to choose from!! This will allow kids to take multiple weeks and get a fresh perspective, even if they take the same courses!
Week 3, July 6-10th
In this week, all classes will focus all the communities in our lives: our towns, our schools, and our families. We will work on projects that reach into the community and create consciousness about our environments.
Period 1: Collaborative Art! 9-10:30am M-F
In this class we are all about working together to make art! Students will break down an art project into parts and all work together to make a display, installation, or object that is greater than the sum of its parts…but they will also make art that they can take home and keep! In the past, projects have included art installations, murals, mash-up monsters, and more! All supplies for the class are included.
Period 2: Clay w/ Kari Phillips! 11-12:30pm M-F
This week is all about community. Like in all the other weeks, kids will learn all the skills they need to be successful: pinch, coil, slab etc. But this week, in addition to objects they make for themselves, they will all make and learn about “friendship plates”, plates that are made to be given away to friends or neighbors with treats on them. The idea is for the plate to be passed around from friend to friend, always with a treat. All supplies for the class are included.
Period 3: Fiber Arts w/ D.D. Lecky! 1:30-3pm M-F
Join our fiber artists in manipulating fibers into beautiful creations. Projects may include crocheting, card weaving, felted rocks, felt sculptures and creatures, and much much more! In addition to the above, all kiddos with join the instructor in creating a blanket for charity. Each kids will make a felt square, designed only by them, that will be quilted together to make a blanket to be given to a local charity. All supplies for the class are included.
Period 4: Chinese Watercolor w/ His-Mei Yates 3:30-5pm M-F
Join award-winning instructor Hsi-Mei Yates in exploring the beautiful and unique world of Chinese Watercolor! Hsi-Mei will help your budding artist develop skills that can be used across multiple mediums and they will create works of art that you will cherish for a lifetime. In this week the children will take inspiration from the local flora and fauna and other images from our town. All supplies for the class are included.
