All Day Summer Camp Ages 10-15, Week 3
All Day summer camps run from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
All-day sign ups include a 1 hr. break from 12:30-1:30 for lunch and two 30-minute breaks at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. Parents are asked to pack a lunch and snacks (we have a refrigerator on site) for their kids. On Friday of each week we will have a CAMP PARTY from 5:00-6:00pm. Refreshments will be served, and parents and siblings are welcome too!!
This year Students will learn about knitting, paper making and manipulation, pottery (wheel and hand building), drawing and painting, polymer clay and fused glass! Full description of each class period is below!
Summer Camptastic 2018 For 10 to 15 year olds!
Week 3: August 6th -10th
Period 1: Book Making and Print Making! 9-10:30am M-F
Join instructors Elizabeth Seaver and Professor Michael Dean for a unique experience with paper and paper crafts.
- Monday & Tuesday: Elizabeth will guide students through the creation of handmade sketchbook/journal. They will design the covers and learn how to bind the spines together.
- Wednesday – Friday: Professor Michael Dean will teach students how to carve their own stamps and plan designs for an exercise in printmaking. Students will print multiple works of art of their own design and may make fabric from their designs as well.
Period 2: Wheel-Throwing and Hand Building…and a Pizza Oven?! 11am-12:30pm M-F
Join instructor Lawton Clites in this fun-filled class all about clay! Students will start off learning about hand building and finish off the week on the potter’s wheel. Weather permitting, we will finish up Friday with a smoke firing of some of the week’s pots!! If you are taking this class for a second week, Lawton will add skills and a special challenge: Can the class work together to make an earthen Pizza Oven?! We’ll see! Cost includes all supplies, tools, paints, glazes, and firings needed! Estimate 5 objects to be taken home and loved forever!
Period 3: A Focus on Form, and Urban Sketching 1:30-3pm M-F
Our instructor will teach basic, intermediate, and advanced drawing skills focusing on figure drawing of human forms and faces. Students will also learn the art of fast sketching, urban sketching, and urban sketching tools. All supplies included.
Period 4: Polymer Clay and Glass Art 2.0 3:30-5pm M-F
All week long students will work with polymer clay and glass to create wonderful objects to keep for all time. Award winning polymer clay artist Melissa Terlizzi will help students make sculptural pieces. Previous projects have included fish, toads, and flowers. Glass artist Gayla Lee, who regularly teaches at the Corning Glass Museum in New York, will teach kids the basics of glass cutting, fusion, and firing. Previous projects have included bowls, coasters, sun catchers, jewelry, and more! Higher cost of class due to higher supply cost.
