All Day Summer Camp Ages 10-15, Week 3: July 6-10, 2020
Welcome to LibertyTown Summer Camps!
Our all-day camps run from 9am to 5 pm and include a 1 hr. break from 12:30-1:30 for lunch and two 30-minute breaks at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. Each hour and a half class will explore another facet and medium of art, including painting, drawing, clay, polymer clay, fiber and art history.
Parents are asked to pack a lunch and snacks (we have a refrigerator on site) for their kids. No peanuts please. Some parents have requested to bring snacks for the whole class. Please let us know if you would like to do this and we will make sure to let everyone know they have a “snack break” on that day.
On Friday of each week we will have a CAMP PARTY from 5:00-6:00pm. Refreshments will be served, and parents and siblings are welcome too!!
Full descriptions of the Class Periods are below!
This year we’re offering a themed program for each week for you to choose from!! This will allow kids to take multiple weeks and get a fresh perspective, even if they take the same courses!
Week 3, July 6-10th
In this week, all classes will focus all the communities in our lives: our towns, our schools, and our families. We will work on projects that reach into the community and create consciousness about our environments.
Period 1: Glass Art w/ Gayla Lee 9-10:30am M-F
All week long, students will work with glass to create wonderful objects to keep for all time. Glass artist Gayla Lee, who regularly teaches at the Corning Glass Museum in New York, will teach kids the basics of glass cutting, fusion, and firing. During this week of glass class, students will work with recycled materials and will make a community art project. All supplies for the class are included.
Period 2: Knitting for the Communityw/Fran Slaterbeck 11-12:30pm M-F
Instructor Fran Slaterbeck welcomes all levels of knitters to her class…so if you have taken her classes before, never fear! She can always teach you more! In this series, Fran will teach all of the students to make items such as scarves, headbands, purses, lanyards, and much more. In addition to a personal project, each student will create a square that will be put together to form a blanket that will be donated to a community charity. All supplies for the class are included.
Period 3: Wheel & Hand building w/ Kari Philips 1:30-3pm M-F
Join Instructor Kari Phillips clay creation and fun, with community on our minds. Kari will walk the kids through all the techniques they need to get a good foundation in clay, including throwing on the wheel. While the kids will work on several projects of their own, they will also work on a bowl that will be donated to Empowerhouse’s annual Empty Bowl fundraiser. All supplies for the class are included.
Period 4: Drawing & Painting: Work Like a Master w/ Tiffany Yates 3:30-5pm M-F
Join Instructor Tiffany Yates for a series of classes on working like the old masters…but you don’t have to BE a master to take them! Take one week, or three…all of them work well together or alone. In this week of the series, you will explore the community as a whole through urban sketching, nature journaling, and dare we say it…perhaps some plein air painting?? Many of the masters spent much of their time capturing the dance of color and light in nature, and your kids can follow in their footsteps. All supplies for the class are included.
